That’s the question being asked as part of a new fundraising campaign for The Trevor Project hosted by “Serendipitydodah for Moms” and “Trans-Parenting.com
Stemming from the 2 recent horrific stories of an 8yo boy who was tortured and murdered by his mother for playing with dolls and a 17yo trans boy who committed suicide, Debi Jackson and Liz Dyer are working together to promote pride in ALL of our kids, whether they fall into the LGBTQ spectrum or not.
Liz’s Facebook support group “Serendipitydodah for Moms” and Debi’s site “Trans-Parenting.com” have joined together to create the Pride and Joy campaign.
Parents are asked to create a sign stating why their child is their pride and joy, take a photo with the sign OR create a photo collage at Fotor to make their statement of pride and joy and share the pics across social media . Participants are encouraged to post photos, videos, or a longer story on the campaign Facebook page … and of course everyone will be encouraged to take the next step and donate to The Trevor Project. (And if you aren’t a parent feel free to get creative and tell us why your niece, nephew, cousin, student, neighbor or friend etc is your pride and joy)
NO ONE has to identify their kids as straight or LGBTQ and can simply post as allies/supporters/friends. The pics and videos will be a fun activity for those who want to post them – but people can donate to The Trevor Project Pride and Joy Campaign without sharing pics or videos.
Hopefully the pics and videos that are shared will create a sort of viral activity so more people can be reached!
The campaign has 3 basic goals:
1) Raise Awareness:
Call attention to the fact that LGBTQ+ people – particularly youth – are still being bullied, marginalized and abused, and remind the world that all kids have great qualities which should make their friends and family proud.
2) Raise Money:
Raise money for The Trevor Project as they are the leading national organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
3) Educate and Support:
Inform the public about “Trans-Parenting.com” and the “Serendipitydodah for Moms” Facebook support group in an effort to help support and educate parents of LGBTQ+ kids.
Please help spread the news about the Pride and Joy Campaign by creating your “Pride & Joy” sign stating why your child/children are your pride and joy OR go to Fotor and create a free photo collage with your pride and joy statement … then share your pics across social media with a link back to this page encouraging others to participate.
Please help us meet our $5,000 goal and donate to The Trevor Project Pride and Joy Campaign.
